South Austin Karate, founded and operated by Michael J. Bainton Ph.D. in 1992, offers Evening classes for all ages of children as well as adults, Summer Camp during the summer, and an Award Winning After School Program.  Classes for Adults as well as Children are conducted in our 15,000 square foot air conditioned facility by 9 qualified and trained Martial Arts Instructors, who are also trained to teach Safety, First Aid, CPR courses, and in addition are well trained in Child Care Development.

In 1995 Sensei was inducted into the Martial Arts Gallery of Fame and was encouraged by Martial Arts Experts to form his own art, which he calls Ba Ki Do. Michael J. Bainton, is educated in the field of Child Psychology, and is currently attending classes to be certified in Child Psychology. During his 44 years in martial arts Sensei has obtained black belts in Kung Jung Mul Sul and Hap Ki Do, and has trained in such arts as Tae Kwon Do, Judo, and Aikido. He is a certified archery instructor and also the author of , "Together We Stand Alone" an adventure novel and dog training guide, which is now under contract for a feature length movie. Books can be obtained for $4.95 plus shipping and handling, by contacting us by E-mail.

In 2005, construction was completed on the South Austin Karate Archery Range. The range has proved to be an invaluable addition to the Ba Ki Do curriculum. The range is 60 feet long and is fully air conditioned and heated and is certified by the Junior Olympic Archery Committee. All of our archery instructors are trained and certified.

The Art of Ba Ki Do is an eclectic art combining traditional Martial Arts with the real world experience of training methods developed by Educators, Criminal Justice experts, Police Forces as well as Women's Self Defense and Child Development Programs. The focus of the Art of Ba Ki Do is a long range development of respect for family values, education and self worth. We have also integrated a longbow archery system into the art to add another facet to the discipline. Antiquated traditions such as signing contractual agreements, for children who may not be successful in a Martial Arts environment are replaced by individual results. The focus of South Austin Karate has given a viable success rate for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. as well as average and gifted students.  Click here to read some of our parent and student testimonials.

South Austin Karate boasts a student scholastic average of 95% in 2003 and 2004, and 94% from 1992 to 2006 making it the highest average of any academy of any kind in the Nation.
